Something in common

Scene: Katie is successfully buying the perfect sweater at JCPenney. Female clerks 1 and 2 are discussing a boy that Clerk 2 once had two classes with.

Clerk 1: (ringing up Katie’s purchase) Hey, do you know [star football player from local high school]? Have you heard of him?
Katie: Yeah, of course.
Clerk 1: (surprised) Really?
Clerk 2: (surprised and excited) Really?
Katie: Yeah, I went to [local high school] and I’ve gone to a few of their games this year.
Clerk 2: (dreamily) He’s my husband.
Clerk 1: Whatever.
Katie: I hear he’s a really nice guy.
Clerk 2: Yeah. What year did you graduate?
Katie: ‘02.
Clerk 2: That’s…uh…uh…a long time ago. (goes back to folding clothes)

Seventeen-year-olds are so charming.

I’ll try anything once, right?

I got a sunburn this weekend.

I don’t remember the last time I had a sunburn. I thought and thought and thought, and I have no idea. Some time in high school? This would explain the deathly paleness of my legs.

Anyway.

For the past two days, a coworker — the only girl in my corner of the newsroom, who happens to be leaving in a couple of weeks, leaving me alone in the boyzone — has been offering me endless tips on how to soothe the burn.

It may help to mention that my instinct with this sort of thing is generally to ignore it until it goes away.

I did not follow her instructions last night. Instead, I had a glass of wine and watched a movie and did not think about my fiery red shoulders. Then I put on some generic aloe gel, but it didn’t help at all.

So today she was insistent. If I wasn’t going to buy the Banana Boat aloe and lidocaine lotion she recommended, she was going to bring her own bottle in. And then she gave me specific instructions on making tea and swabbing it on the burn to “soak up the sun toxins.”

“Are you going to do the tea bag thing?” she asked before I left.

I could have said yes. I hesitated. She got a tea bag out of her desk and gave it to me. And because I will do anything when I have an enabler, I’m sitting here with a bowl of tea and a washcloth, dabbing myself with green tea.

I think I can feel those sun toxins bubbling up to the surface.

Also, I feel stupid. Partly for getting burned in the first place, partly because I reek of tea.

Update: It didn’t help.

Pharmacist McDreamy?

Every time I’ve gone to the pharmacy at the Walgreens down the street, I’ve noticed that everyone working there is young and hot. I’ve seen several gorgeous ladies there, and tonight the guy working the drive-through window had a very Eric Balfour look going on. The staff looks like it could be the cast of a Grey’s Anatomy-type show set in a pharmacy. Seriously. Seriously. 3333 E. Central. Check it out.

But they are slow. as. fuck. I was stuck in the drive through for half an hour tonight with only ONE CAR ahead of me in my lane. Also seriously.

Sick day

I am sick today. I’m hanging out at home, wrapped in a blanket, feeling groggy and nauseated. But I’m working on knitting a Domo Kun, so yay for making my own crazy knitting patterns.
