I can’t manage more than 140 characters

For anyone who worries that I’ve disappeared off the face of the earth: I’m still active on Twitter if not here.

Unrelated: Dictionary.app is my favorite thing. I’m amazed I ever passed the GRE. Someone should torture me with flash cards before my vocabulary completely vanishes.

I resemble that remark

I no longer feel the need to write my “I am an asshole” series. I have been beaten to the punch.

Al’s Morning Meeting comes out of the closet

07
Jan
2008

Congratulations to Al Tompkins for accepting that his column is actually a blog, and finally treating it as such. It drives me crazy that Poynter keeps these great “columns” stuck on bizarro software instead of letting them fully flourish on software with fully-integrated comments, trackbacks, (better?) archive navigation, etc.

Three recent beauty/fashion-related discoveries

01
Nov
2007
  1. Rimmel London is the ten-cent whore of makeup brands. It doesn’t matter what shade you buy, you’ll look whorey. Just pay the extra buck for CoverGirl already.
  2. When I wear the Very Tall Heels, elevating me from travel size to normal size, I feel like I’m getting a forbidden peek into how other people experience the world. Being a man for a day couldn’t be stranger than this.
  3. After rearranging my closet last weekend, it appears that the majority of my sweaters are green. Looking back, green has always been overrepresented in my closet. And then I went shopping Tuesday and bought a green shirt (new shade, though!). Maybe hypnotherapy is the answer.

Icons, anyone?

I need more people to trade icons with on IconBuffet’s “Free Delivery”, if any of you are the free icon-loving type. I need to use up a serious stockpile of stamps if I’ve got anything in my collection that you want.

Not that I’ve really found anything to do with my 72 sets of free icons yet, but I’ve got some ideas brewing.

It’s like Fake Steve Jobs for journalists

10
Jul
2007

This is guaranteed to not be interesting to a single Here in Katie’s Head reader, but damn, the fake blog mocking Star Tribune publisher Par Ridder is really well done. It’s not easy to capture the arrogance, paranoia and feigned optimism of a newspaper executive. Ridder and his critics provide ample bait to a would-be satirist, but this blog gets the caricature just right.

I hope its writer wasn’t hit by the Strib layoffs. Wait, did the PiPress have layoffs too? Either way, this person deserves a job.
