Winterized
It got cold, so I made myself a hat.

And then the OMG ICE STORM OF DEATH did not come. But now I’m ready for next time.

At today’s morning meeting at work, somehow I outed myself as a knitter. This revelation was apparently an exciting revelation for the managing editor, who is a knitter herself. She immediately suggested starting a newsroom Stitch and Bitch group.
And of course as soon as she says “Stitch and Bitch” the sports guys all say, “What?!?”
It’s what the cool kids call their knitting circles, guys.
Hours later, a different kind of outing. Browsing the AP’s “hip” news service, asap, I stumble upon the news that T.R. Knight is gay. After my initial cry of “not George!” the following conversation occurs:
Him: He’s not my type. He looks like he’s 12. Her: What? (quietly) What is your type? Him: LL Cool J. Her: WHAT? REALLY? Him: Yeah! My boss: Too much information.
And then “Him” proceeds to give “Her” a list of names to lookup on google’s image search, which led to a loop of “ew? who is this guy?” and “what did you think my type was?”
How come no one ever asks me what my type is? Is it just a gay thing? (Kidding. Jeez.)
And then the managing editor came back to tell me that she googled for local Stitch and Bitch groups and discovered that there is a local knitting group, but they prefer to go by the less provocative “Knitting in Public.”
Lessons learn: T.R. Knight is gay and that’s okay, the word “bitch” still gets a rise out of some people, and knitting takes priority over other morning meeting topics like, oh, what we’re gonna put in the paper tomorrow.

My first ever video blog: a two-and-a-half-minute presentation about my amazing scarf, made possible by QuickTime Pro and YouTube.
Mormon ladies save penguins’ lives with sweaters.
I’m disappointed they didn’t post a link to the pattern. I’d knit a penguin sweater. Or maybe this is a Mormons-only project.
I’m back on the knitting wagon.
This morning, I finished The Best Scarf Ever just in time to give it to Quinton for his birthday. Today, I have started started a lace scarf pattern that I wanted to try out in hopes of improving my lace skillz.
I’m using the recommended Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in “New Age Teal,” but I’m not impressed with it so far. It unravels too easily and it’s un-scarf-ly.
I also bought supplies for The Best Scarf Ever: The Next Generation. I envision a scarf with pockets, eliminating the need for gloves. It will be awesome.
So I figured I’d give the duct tape wallet thing a try (Molly convinced me). Mostly because I’m cheap and needed a quick DIY project. I used my parents’ duct tape and vaguely followed this nifty pattern.
I got crafty and used clear packing tape stuck back-to-back to make a clear window for my ID. I also put in two card pockets (for debit and KUID).
I’m still contemplating how to really personalize. Does permanent marker stick to duct tape? Maybe I should find some neat stickers.
