People, places, things
A few weeks ago, I decided that I should have a cool hat. So I convinced a friend to go shopping in Delano with me, and I bought a hat. I love the hat, my friend loves the hat, even her husband likes the hat.
But when I wear it in Wichita, I get scoffed at (granted, it was by the usual scoffers, so whatever). Discouraged, the hat spent a couple of weeks hiding out at home.
Friday night, I drove up to Lawrence for a friend’s birthday party. I wear the hat. When I get to town, I have to run a few errands (liquor store, Dirty Dillons).
At the liquor store, I start noticing that guys are checking me out. A drunk guy compliments my hat. I’d transcribe the rest of the conversation, but he was fairly unintelligible, so I’d just be guessing.
Then I get to Dillons, where some dude who is at the checkout with his girlfriend leans around a display to get a closer look at me. Holy crap.
Obvious conclusion: I need to spend more time in Lawrence.
At the same time, this was the first time I went back that it didn’t feel like I was going home. I credit that to the fact that my covert plan to move back turned into a big disaster. There are a lot of things I miss about Lawrence (La Parrilla, concerts, boys), but the bullshit and red tape of working at a university is not one of them.
That said, I can’t wait until this year’s round of graduation parties starts up so I have an excuse to visit again.
Looks like someone went to Hat Man Jacks? I hit up their Winter Hat Sale and picked up a stylish driving hat at 50% off. It’s pretty sweet, but scoffs to happen when I wear it. I like it and consider it money well spend, and thats all that should matter when you find that right hat. By the picture, I obviously didn’t see that hat when I was shopping, because I would have purchased it too. That’s a choice lid!
As for Lawrence, don’t get me started. Love the town, love the time I spend there, and wish I could spend more time there with the friends of mine that choose to make their homes there. You’ve got one up on me considering you actually attened and graduated from KU.

Actually, I looked at Hatman Jacks and didn’t find anything that was quite what I wanted, so I ended up wandering down the block to Savage Threads, where I found my hat. It didn’t have a price tag so they sold it to me for $15. Choice hat, choice price.

Your conclusion SHOULD be: keep wearing the hat ’til the hat scoffers start being hat lovers. I’ll say it again, I like the hat. did you see the porkpie that jamie got for the races?
