Here in Katie’s Head

I demand a lot from my stamps.

Why are the two-cent stamps so ugly? They don’t coordinate with any of the other stamps. They look especially ugly next to all my leftover 37-cent stamps.

I think the USPS is trying to trick me into throwing away all the old stamps and buying 39-cent stamps so that I don’t have to look at any more of their ugly two-cent ones.

Knitting saves lives

Mormon ladies save penguins’ lives with sweaters.

I’m disappointed they didn’t post a link to the pattern. I’d knit a penguin sweater. Or maybe this is a Mormons-only project.

Voyeurs are weird

I was studying at the library today. You know, for the first time ever.

I always wondered what kind of people still go to libraries now that we have Google. (I’m sorry librarians. I love you.)

Well, now I know. WEIRD people.

This guy and his friend come in to the study room where I’m slowly mapping out a term paper. He gets out his laptop, they whisper to each other (possibly about me), but not in English. If they’re going to invade my study space, they could at least let me eavesdrop.

His friend leaves. He starts playing (middle eastern? Indian?) music on his laptop. REALLY LOUD. His friend comes back, looking concerned. More whispers (probably translating to “Turn off music! White girl is pissed!”). He turns off the music. His friend leaves again.

Then Josh gets there and we brainstorm for the paper together. God, this paper is going to be terrible.

After about an hour, I finally look back at Laptop Dude. HE HAS A WEBCAM OUT ON HIS TABLE, PLUGGED INTO HIS LAPTOP. WHAT KIND OF WEIRDO RUNS HIS WEBCAM FROM A UNIVERSITY LIBRARY?

The kind of weirdos who still go to libraries.

Conclusion: Avoid libraries.

It was inevitable

Days between announcement of Intel iMac and Katie breaking down and buying one: 88.

Days before I get to bask in New Apple Smell: too many.

We got a 20″ iMac at work a couple months ago. My friend Zach and I quickly made it a habit to start our days by watching movie trailers in Front Row. When we discovered MediaCentral had even more movie trailers, we switched to that. It’s embarrassing how many times we’ve watched the Happy Feet trailer.

I cannot wait until I have 20 inches of on-demand dancing-penguin silliness in my own home.

Apple Macintosh + big display + streaming, full-screen movie trailers + remote control = perfect recipe for a happy Katie
