“America is addicted to oil”

I don’t know if you actually meant any of the section of your speech tonight, Mr. President, but after that, for the first time in your presidency, I didn’t want to kick you in the balls. And I feel kinda good about that. Thanks.

Now make your promises about a more fuel-efficient America happen. Bring down the prices of hybrid/alternative-fuel cars, and I’ll buy one.

Alcohol

Before an hour ago, I didn’t own any martini glasses. So I bought a set of four ugly ones for $9.99 at Target. (I am now regretting my choice. I should have paid the extra $10 for prettier ones.)

But now that I have martini glasses, I can make my own appletinis. And now that I can make my own appletinis, I am drunk (with power! and booze!).

My point? The medium-sized bottles of apple pucker are on sale at Cork & Barrel. Stock up.

I get the most google hits on posts where I declare that something sucks

So, internship’s done. I thought I’d spend a couple days in Seattle before I head back to Kansas.

Granted, I’ve only been in Seattle for a couple hours and we’ve spent most of that time getting lost. And the parking? Jesus.

Give me a mid-size city any day.

Full-time is a lot of time

Sorry for being so silent lately.

My brain has been completely consumed by the transition from “hmm, I should probably figure out what to do after I graduate” to “holy &#%$, I need a JOB” to “omg, now I have to figure out insurance and housing and moving and…crap!”

And I knit a dress.

But mostly I was working a lot.

Before my brain wore out, I was blogging some at the intern blog.

(Oh, I was also contemplating buying a new iMac. I have instructed myself to wait a bit longer before I inevitably decide to splurge.)

2005 in Review

01
Jan
2006

I can’t believe this year is over. I’ve been dreading 2006 for almost a decade, because it will be the year I finish my undergraduate degree and have to learn to be a grownup.

Nevertheless, it’s time for the annual Year in Review post. I’ve been putting it off all week.

Things that scared the holy living crap out of me

  1. Not having electricity for a week after the ice storm in January
  2. Moving in with my boyfriend
  3. Flying out to Washington for an internship
  4. The Database Mistake We Do Not Speak Of
  5. Getting pulled over by the police for the first time

Things that I learned

  1. Moving in with my boyfriend was an excellent move
  2. PHP
  3. I like programming more than I expected to
  4. I may already be a double major, but I could minor in changing my mind
  5. If I end up in Spokane, I could totally afford to rent a house

Things that made it to frequent rotation on the iPod

  1. The Decemberists’ Picaresque
  2. The Elizabethtown soundtrack
  3. Paul Simon’s Graceland
  4. Random stuff from Salon.com’s daily downloads
  5. The Diggnation podcast

Things that made me cry

  1. Okay, I don’t even remember what we were arguing about, but I remember crying during/after an argument with Quinton at the beginning of the year
  2. My sweet, old cat dying (and yet I didn’t cry when my parents put the other cat to sleep this week, but I wasn’t home for that)
  3. The last episode of Six Feet Under (I don’t cry often, but series finales have a magical effect on me, and this one was the most difficult)
  4. Leaving Quinton at the airport
  5. Thinking I would never make it out of the SLC airport

Reality TV shows I watched too much of

  1. Project Runway
  2. Kept
  3. America’s Next Top Model
  4. Surreal Life
  5. Next

People I couldn’t have made it without

  1. Quinton, a thousand times over
  2. My bosses, all of them
  3. Mom
  4. My airport buddy (Lynn?)
  5. Amelia, my replacement mom here in Spokane

Things that rocked my world in an especially good way

  1. My shopping mojo ($60 pants for $8, $75 jacket for $8, $50 shoes for $12, perfect jeans for $20) that has resulted an a completely new wardrobe
  2. Being able to pay rent on time every month without stress
  3. The heated mattress pad that Quinton bought me for my birthday
  4. Having my own office
  5. The possibility of having a dream job offer before graduation
