I’m back on the knitting wagon.
This morning, I finished The Best Scarf Ever just in time to give it to Quinton for his birthday. Today, I have started started a lace scarf pattern that I wanted to try out in hopes of improving my lace skillz.
I’m using the recommended Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in “New Age Teal,” but I’m not impressed with it so far. It unravels too easily and it’s un-scarf-ly.
I also bought supplies for The Best Scarf Ever: The Next Generation. I envision a scarf with pockets, eliminating the need for gloves. It will be awesome.

I don’t like what I’m seeing in TV ads lately. Since when can you advertise lube on TV during the middle of the day? And “Have a happy period”? My ass! And I just saw substantial female asscrack in an ad on Bravo. I have no idea what the ad was for, but there was asscrack and it shocked me. (Edit: They just showed it again. It’s for Bluefly.)
But what I can’t take is the ads that blatantly lie.
Platex, I’m calling you out.
You show a woman hanging out in her 18 Hour Bra. And then you claim that it’s “pretty.” LIARS.
18 Hour Bras are matronly. I appreciate that you don’t try to call them “sexy,” but “pretty” isn’t just puffery.
I understand the agony of finding a bra that fits properly — why don’t they make the cute/sexy bras in D-cups? — but don’t lie to us.
How about some honesty? Just get on the screen and say, “They actually fit. You won’t have to readjust the girls every few minutes. And for industrial-strength bras, they’re pretty cheap.”
I still won’t buy one, but I bet your sales go up anyway.

I’m in grammar class, learning about infinitives. On any other day, this would obviously be thrilling. I actually appreciate the chance to play with descriptive grammar. It’s far less soul-crushing than the dogmatic prescriptivism we’re beat down with in copy editing class.
But the class next door is watching a movie. They do this often, and they always have really recognizable opening themes. The first time, it was The Last of the Mohicans. This time, it’s HBO’s Angels in America miniseries, which is my favorite drama. (My favorite comedy being Haiku Tunnel.)
And I’m jealous.
(As a side note, I felt like the miniseries felt a lot less millennialist than the play. Maybe something to do with watching vs. reading?)

New theme for the site. I call it ribbons.
It came to me in a dream. Okay, it looked a lot better in the dream.
I’m still tweaking it.
I haven’t had the chance to check it in IE/Win yet since I don’t have a PC yet. Sadly it seems most of you (n00bs!) are still using Internet Explorer so, uh, sucks to be you.
(And no, I haven’t died. My bathroom is trying to kill me, though, and I think it’s got the upper hand at the moment.)
