Yay Communists

Last night, I escorted five lovely young communist boys around the house as they knocked on doors and tried to convert our residents to their cause.

Well, kinda.

You see, down the street is Stephenson Scholarship Hall, whose residents love to characterize their hall as the bastard stepchild of scholarship housing (although they have removed this claim from their website for some reason…). And while they always seem frustrated with other halls’ skeptic view of Stephenson’s priorities, they do have the most interesting ideas for their parties.

This time around, they’re throwing a Communist Bloc Party, with Tetris, vodka, and other fun things. Last time it was the Neanderthal Ball (”drink ’til she’s cute!”).

None of this improves their image, of course, but I find it endearing.

  2. As Co-Dear Leader of the original Red Lyle’s Communist Party Machine, I can’t believe anyone thought it was a good idea to reprise the idea.

No one wanted to play Tetris, and the bike room smelled like cabbage and beets for weeks afterwards.

    What are those kids thinking?

  3. I used to by a Lyleman a LOOONG time ago (’89-’94). We’ve always been the punks of the Scholarship Hall. Funny how that continues into my attitude today. We’ve always been so antiestablishment it’s not even funny. If you wanted weird, quirky, smart but maladjusted, malnourished dudes, we were it.

  4. Hello! I was searching for Steve Hall related links and somehow ended up at your website. I was a Lyleman many many years ago.

Congrats - your blog is well done and interesting. Thanks for writing your blog and please keep it going.
