Katie’s Got Herself a Brand New Boy

2004

If you’ll recall, back in December, I wrote a letter to Santa, with a list of things that I wanted for Christmas.

As I recall, I didn’t get any of them as Christmas gifts, but now they’re trickling in.

  1. better health
  2. an iPod
  3. a nice boy who can make me both laugh and think

Of course, there were more things on the list, but I have a feeling some of the others may follow as a result of #3.

(And I will also claim #3 as an excuse for not posting frequently, which you should all appreciate because it would just come out all gushy and lame and undignified.)

I am, however, still watching for that stockpile of Blue Sky Organic soda.

Happiness is an old friend IMing you drunk in the middle of the night to remind you that he loves you and you’re great.

Belly Button

24

2004

When I was four, I got my ears pierced because if other girls could have pierced ears, why not me?

When I was fifteen, I spent part of my first ever paycheck getting a second hole punched in each ear because, uh, it seemed cool, I guess.

And when I was eighteen, I got a piece of metal shoved through my navel because my mommy told me not to.

You see, when I left for the airport early on June 4, 2002 to spend two weeks with Brandon, the last words my mother said to me were “don’t come back with any piercings or tattoos.”

I nixed the idea of a tattoo because I couldn’t commit to a design. But a 14 gauge metal stick through my belly (inserted by quite possibly the weirdest looking guy ever)? No problem.

Now, I don’t really think I’m the “type” of person who normally gets multiple piercings. Perhaps I have identity issues. Perhaps I just forget those holes are still there (except times like this morning, when the elastic on my pajama pants gave a nice little TUG on my barbell–ouch!).

The best part is when I wake up groggy on a Saturday morning, scratch my tummy and then feel cold metal against my fingers and think, “WHAT THE HELL??? Oooooh, right, that summer in Berkeley. Tsk, what was I thinking?”

Things I Learned Tonight

24
Jan
2004

Things I learned tonight:

  • Having a boy to slave away in the kitchen for you is, like, totally awesome.
  • Something about a guy whose eyes light up when I let him play with my iPod is really quite charming.
  • The Butterfly Effect is a good movie. I feel guilty for ever doubting Ashton Kutcher.
  • Also charming is a guy cursing during a sappy moment and then apologizing for it. (For the record, curse away–I’m immune.)

Just like everyone else is saying, be sure you upgrade your MovableType installation to the newest version (2.661). I finally got hit by the comment spam, too, so these fixes are much appreciated.

(Note to my hostees: let me know if you encounter any problems, but we should be upgraded and in working order.)

More iPod Love

Okay, so the iPod and I just got back from our honeymoon and we’d like to share some music that you should totally check out.

First off, I have known Father Bingo from the They Might Be Giants newsgroup for years, but I never checked out his music until recently. It’s really, really weird, but I really, really like it.

Also a bit quirky is Laptop. My dear friend Trent introduced me to them. I think they’re the type of group that you think is either pretty cool or absolute shit. I’m not typically one to dig this electronic/synth stuff, but, uh, I like it.

I’ve seen it on a zillion end of the year lists, but I knew it was great before they did: Guster’s Keep it Together. It’s just really, really good.

Ben Folds, Ben Kweller, and Ben Lee each kick quite a bit of ass on their own, but when together as The Bens, they’re…well, awesome. If you buy The Bens EP–and you should–it’s much cheaper if you get it on the iTunes Music Store.

Speaking of iTunes, fire it up and check out their Top 100 Albums of 2003. Yes, a lot of them are commercialized crap, but a lot of them are really, really good.

Okay, enough advertising. I’m going back to my knitting.
