2003 in Review

2003

As I do each year, here is my Year in Review for 2003. It seemed like a pretty good year, but as I started writing this out I realized how much of it really sucked. However, the parts that rocked were totally rocking. And 2004 looks to be interesting.

January: Moved in with new roommates. Mild seasonal depression and arthritis set in. Tried to keep myself distracted from both. Got turned down for a job I really wanted. Realized my hatred for January is totally justified.

February: Gave roses to all my girlfriends on Valentines to cheer them up, making their collective day. Began trial separation from Justin. Went to to a rock-tastic concert.

March: Got my shit together, if briefly. Got caught in the Denver Blizzard of ‘03 over spring break. Watched a ton of movies while snowbound. Reunited with Justin upon returning to Kansas.

April: Plagued by insecurity. Went to another cool concert. Had a scary allergic reaction. Crashed my moped twice. Burned myself once (leaving a six-inch scar that I make up silly stories about).

May: Dumped by Justin. Feigned security. Realized my roommates are really, really damn cool. Had Hugh-Jackman-a-Thon with roommate. Moved back to Wichita for the summer.

June: Spent the month medicating my sick-as-a-dog cat. Took up knitting. Became obsessed with Six Feet Under. Another allergic reaction, finally went to an allergist, thought I was going to die, in my special hypochondriac way.

July: Did nothing. Seriously. All month long, nothing.

August: Finally, after a year of stupid crap, got my shit together. Thank god. Moved back to Lawrence, moved in with friends into the coolest room in the hall. Met my friend John at a party. Hung out on the roof.

September: Tried to grow lettuce on the roof. Roommates suspiscious of my judgment, for good reason. Life was good.

October: Roommates HIGHLY suspicious of my judgment, sometimes I am too. Ben convinces me that my judgment is really not so bad. Life was still good, but really weird. Spent fall break chilling out. Garth touched my boob. Hilarity ensued.

November: The thing I cannot speak of because if I word it wrongly, I’ll be flamed for it. Wrote a term paper on millennialism. Turned twenty. Felt old. Caught a cold from icky cousin.

December: Still had a cold. Head left spinning by The Weekend of Too Much Drama. Did some crazy, crazy shit (and as the running joke goes, some day I’ll brag about it to my grandkids). Got high on a turkey sandwich, inexplicably. Flirted with a cute boy or two. Bought an iPod. Hated Wichita. Appreciated a lot of people. Got excited about writing.

  2. that is a good idea! perhaps i will do a review of 2003. my year was good, interesting, but definitely a rollercoaster of extreme ups and downs. the first year of my life where i have had a boyfriend all through it. the first year where i have been living in a foreign country the entire year.

  5. Tsk, not this year. Horribly disappointed about it, too. Ah well, should be an interesting year with or without it.
