It’s cold.
Today, I am wearing a sweater.
For the first two weeks since I moved back in at Lawrence, it had been over 100 degrees every day.
And right now it is 66 and foggy. It rained for what must have been a day and a half straight and now it is my favorite weather and I am so grateful.
I sat out on the porch on a wet lawn chair, feet propped up on a milk crate and I was cold. When I looked out on the horizon, for the first time in weeks, I couldn’t see for 10 miles, but rather just a couple, with everything beyond fading into cloudy haze. The moisture on my skin, for once, is not my own sweat, but the tingly, cold, near-invisible water droplets of the fog. I’m not compulsively showering to get rid of the sweat, now just taking a single shower a day for the pleasure of the warm water on my skin. And because it is a holiday weekend and most students have gone home, the nearest noise I hear is not the girls down the hall or the frat boys down the hill, but a train whistle on the north end of town.
It is so calm, so soothing right now.
I will relish it because it will be at least 15 degrees warmer for the next week or longer. Not that I will complain about a high of 83 when that’s 20 less than it has been lately. But 66 and foggy is my favorite.
I’m from Lawrence too and yeah, this weekend has been kind of a Twilight Zone here. For weeks it’s been this crazy hot weather and all these students around everywhere you look. All of a sudden the temperature drops 40 degrees and Mass St turns into a ghost town.
You know what it is, it’s Mars getting too close.

brrr. I hate this chilly weather. although, I have to admit, I do like having to sleep with my comfy/cuddly blanket at night, compared to just a normal sheet that I use in the summer. but other than that, I much prefer 90degree weather
