Here in Katie’s Head

It’s cold.

Today, I am wearing a sweater.

For the first two weeks since I moved back in at Lawrence, it had been over 100 degrees every day.

And right now it is 66 and foggy. It rained for what must have been a day and a half straight and now it is my favorite weather and I am so grateful.

I sat out on the porch on a wet lawn chair, feet propped up on a milk crate and I was cold. When I looked out on the horizon, for the first time in weeks, I couldn’t see for 10 miles, but rather just a couple, with everything beyond fading into cloudy haze. The moisture on my skin, for once, is not my own sweat, but the tingly, cold, near-invisible water droplets of the fog. I’m not compulsively showering to get rid of the sweat, now just taking a single shower a day for the pleasure of the warm water on my skin. And because it is a holiday weekend and most students have gone home, the nearest noise I hear is not the girls down the hall or the frat boys down the hill, but a train whistle on the north end of town.

It is so calm, so soothing right now.

I will relish it because it will be at least 15 degrees warmer for the next week or longer. Not that I will complain about a high of 83 when that’s 20 less than it has been lately. But 66 and foggy is my favorite.

Our hall president (a very cool girl, who lives across the hall from me) is drawing me a rabbit to tape above my bed tonight so I won’t forget.

Glorious

Sigh.

So my roommate has this friend who used to hang out with us last year, but he seemingly dropped off the face of the earth last Christmas. I have upon occasion…well, spoken great praise of his ass. Not that I stare or anything. No, I’m not going to apologize for this.

So when he appears out of nowhere and takes the seat next to me at my political science class, all I can think is please god, don’t let him find out what I said about *his glorious ass*.

Objectification be damned, I’ve never seen a more beautiful one.

Getting to Know John

You know, when you’re hanging out with someone in person for only the second time, and really all he knows of you is your entire blog archive, while you know close to nothing about him…it’s hard not to feel a bit vulnerable, a bit of an imbalence.

Nevertheless, I had fun tonight, out on the roof, listening to John play my guitar.

The thought bouncing ’round my brain right now is that I know I would write this entry differently if I thought he’d never read it, but I really don’t know what I’d say in that case.

Bluegrass, etc.

Good things happening:

  1. A girl on the first floor is interested in making her first pilgrimage to the bluegrass festival and I desperately need a ride down there. That means she gets a tour guide and I get a ride. Sweet deal.

  2. Weird Katey wants me to be her parner in crime for the weekly satire page in the school paper (essentially a rip-off of The Onion). There is nothing I do better than make up crazy shit, so I’m obviously thrilled at the offer.

  3. TOP SECRET*.

*Unless it becomes declassified soon, which may happen.

Morning After

So the parties were fun. I didn’t get myself into any trouble.

Although I did agree to smoke something “completely legal” with a strange, drunk boy who lives a couple halls away from me. We weren’t entirely sure what he was trying to explain to us, but he seemed very disappointed that everyone else was turning him down. You know, I’ll do anything stupid once, right? He’s supposed to get back with me today about that, and while he may remember my name still, he doesn’t have my number. We’ll see how that turns out.

Happy Shirt

I’m wearing my favorite black t-shirt (tight, sleeveless, no logo). I don’t know what it is about it, but it puts me in a good mood when I’m wearing it. One of those moods were I want to dance all the time.

Let it also be known that while I’ve been in college for a year already, tonight I’m going to my first real authentic big party.

(Because the ones in the past were small and attended mostly by people several years older than me who were past the keg and sloppy drunk and puking phase.)

So uh…someone check on me in the morning, eh?
