Why Do Good Things Happen to Me?
Why do good things happen to people who don’t deserve them?
Namely, me.
It turns out I have way more scholarship money this semester than I thought I should.
Mom would be pleased to know that I marched my scholarship check right over to the bank and opened up a savings account.
But still, why do these serendipitous things happen to me with such dazzling frequency?
Perhaps I have a whole lot of karma left over from a past life. In Buddhist teachings, they say people who live really really good lives get to be gods for a period of time before they are reincarnated. Perhaps my past self fell short of that, but landed in the damned lucky category instead.
Because if I got what’s coming to me, I should be dead by now.
Not that I’m suggesting that my luck needs to change or anything. I am 100% appreciative of it.
But god damn, I got a lot of money today.

Katie, obviously I don’t know the details of your scholarship, but you may want to check to make sure that they didn’t give you your money for the entire year rather than just for the current semester. I had this happen to me one time with a loan way back when I was in school.

Paul, that’s kinda sorta part of it.
The money I got yesterday I thought had been put into my account back in August. Turns out the money in my account was some extra money I didn’t know I was going to get. So now I’m getting the money I thought I’d already received — and spent — half of.
And so, a couple months later, I’ve finally figured it all out.
